Why Most Coaches Fail

Here’s a stat that should stop you in your tracks: 82% of coaches leave the industry after year two. Not because they’re bad coaches. Because they never figured out marketing.

I was one of them. Scrambling to attract clients, pouring energy into a funnel that made promises it couldn’t keep. Marketing felt like a foreign language. And for a lot of coaches coming into my world, it still does.

The uncomfortable truth? If you’ve been learning from people who are still teaching 2018 strategies, your frustration makes complete sense. The environment changed. The audience changed. And the model had to change with it.

This isn’t unique to coaching, either. 78% of entrepreneurs exit by year three. It takes consistency, the right strategy, and the willingness to evolve. This episode is about the evolving part.

What Coaches Were Taught vs. What Actually Works

I was taught the classic linear funnel. Someone discovers you. They download your lead magnet. They go through a nurture sequence. They book a call. They become a client. Done.

Coaches were selling this like clockwork. Build the perfect funnel, write the perfect emails, and clients flow in on autopilot. Passive income rears its head, and suddenly everyone’s promising you can build a digital product and do nothing else.

It was never fully accurate. And now? It’s even less so.

When I surveyed the first cohort of my Premium Client Accelerator, 90% of them expected a lead to become a paying client within 24 to 48 hours. Twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Stranger to client in two days.

When that doesn’t happen, coaches assume something’s broken. It’s not. The timeline just doesn’t work like that anymore. And the reasons are worth understanding.

Become a Personalized Marketer

This is the strategy shift that changes everything. Instead of sending blanket emails and hoping someone bites, you become a high-touch, personalized marketer.

What this looks like in practice:

Someone new follows you on Instagram. Instead of waiting for them to enter your funnel, send a welcome message. Ask what their biggest current struggle is. Point them to a free resource that actually fits where they are. You’re warming them up, not rushing them to a booking link.

Someone has attended three of your workshops and still hasn’t become a client. Send a personal audio message. “I’ve noticed you’ve shown up to the last three trainings. I’d love to know what’s holding you back. What’s your biggest struggle right now?” You’re creating a conversation. You’re making them feel seen.

I watch the last 10 people who downloaded my Limited Series Podcast. Then I personally invite them to an upcoming free training. Not a blast email. A targeted, segmented, intentional message. It converts differently. Because it feels different.

The goal is always to create a conversation, not a transaction. Conversations help you qualify clients, understand their needs, and often, all they need is to feel genuinely invited.

The Trust-Building Offer That Bridges the Gap

All of this temperature work, all of this personalized outreach, leads toward one key moment: an easy, low-barrier way for your warm leads to experience working with you before they invest at a higher level.

Sending a cold lead straight to a $5K offer doesn’t work as reliably as it once did. For your hottest leads, yes. They may be ready. But for your warm and cool leads, you need a bridge: something low-barrier, high-trust, deeply personalized.
