A Step-By-Step Guide To Quarterly Planning

A Step-By-Step Guide To Quarterly Planning

A Step-By-Step Guide To Quarterly Planning

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the idea of planning your business goals for the next 90 days, this episode is for you.

Today, I’m sharing the exact process I use for quarterly planning—both for myself and for my students inside The Best Damn Coach.

Whether you’re just starting or looking to optimize your existing business, this step-by-step guide will help you map out a clear, actionable plan for the next quarter.

Why Quarterly Planning Matters

Quarterly planning is the secret sauce to staying focused, productive, and intentional in your business. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle and lose sight of your bigger goals. By breaking your year into 90-day chunks, you can:

  • Reflect on what’s working (and what’s not).
  • Set realistic, achievable goals.
  • Create a clear roadmap for the next three months.

As I always say, “Don’t sit down at your computer if you don’t know what you’re going to do.” Quarterly planning ensures that every hour you spend in your business is aligned with your goals.

Step 1: Reflect on the Past Quarter

Before you can plan for the future, you need to look back at the past. Here are three key questions to ask yourself:

  • What Worked?
    • What strategies or actions brought you the most success in the last quarter?
    • What felt good—both personally and professionally?
  • Did I Meet My Goals? Why or Why Not?
    • Be honest with yourself. Did you hit your targets? If not, what held you back?
    • Was your goal realistic, or did you set yourself up for failure?
  • What Do I Want Right Now?
    • Based on your reflections, what’s most important for you to focus on in the next quarter?

For example, in my business, we spent the first quarter optimizing our existing offers rather than launching new ones. This decision came from our theme for the year: “Same but better.”

Step 2: Set Your Quarterly Goal

Once you’ve reflected, it’s time to set a clear goal for the next 90 days. Ask yourself:

  • What do I want to accomplish by the end of this quarter?
  • Is it a financial goal (e.g. earning $25,000)?
  • Is it a client goal (e.g. serving 10 new clients)?
  • Is it a project goal (e.g. launching a new workshop)?

Your goal should be specific, measurable, and aligned with your bigger vision for the year.

Step 3: Break It Down into Monthly Actions

Now that you have your quarterly goal, break it down into monthly milestones. For example:

  • If your goal is to serve 9 clients in the next quarter, aim to onboard 3 clients each month.
  • If you’re launching a workshop at the end of the quarter, map out the steps month by month:
    • Month 1: Develop the workshop content.
    • Month 2: Create email sequences and marketing materials.
    • Month 3: Promote the workshop and fill the seats.

This approach ensures that you’re taking consistent, actionable steps toward your goal.

Step 4: Get Granular with Weekly and Daily Tasks

Once you’ve mapped out your monthly milestones, break them down even further into weekly and daily tasks. For example:

  • If your goal is to write email copy for your workshop, your weekly tasks might include:
    • Write 3 nurture emails for the pre-workshop sequence.
    • Draft 6 follow-up emails for post-workshop engagement.

The key is to leave your planning session with a clear list of the next steps so you can hit the ground running.

Step 5: Stay Accountable

Accountability is the secret ingredient to achieving your goals. Here’s how to stay on track:

  • Monthly Check-Ins: Review your progress at the end of each month. Are you on track to hit your quarterly goal?
  • Community Support: Surround yourself with like-minded entrepreneurs who can cheer you on and hold you accountable.

Inside The Best Damn Coach, we host monthly goal-setting and accountability calls to help our students stay focused and motivated. Your Business, Your Rules

Quarterly planning isn’t just about setting goals—it’s about creating a business that works for you. Whether you’re aiming for financial freedom, more clients, or a new offer, this process will help you get there.

Remember, goals are meant to inspire you, not overwhelm you. Take it one step at a time, and don’t be afraid to adjust your plan as you go.
