In this episode, I will share 3 reasons your client may not be following through and give solutions to support you to increase adherence with your clients.
One of the greatest challenges as a coach is adherence. It’s largely the single most important aspect of coaching as well. No matter what niche/topic you support your client in, following through and taking action is the part where they will need the most support.

Adherence by the way simply means “sticking to something.”
This topic is also complex. I am going to outline 3 common reasons AND know each client is a unique butterfly.
I also want to say that these reasons are also about you. These reasons apply to you as well. Reminder–the best coaches are the ones that coach themselves.
3 common reasons your clients don’t adhere:
- Lack of rapport: You don’t have trust. Often we don’t realize this.
- Cognitive dissonance: A gap between your client’s thoughts/values/words and their actual behaviors. You have to go deeper to get to the root of it all.
- Secondary gain: When there is something to be gained by not changing.
Once you have recognized that your clients aren’t following through consistently, you can start to really help them and get to the root of WHY they aren’t following through.
How to help your client:
- Ask questions
- Do NOT do the work for them.
- Be curious.
