As I sit down to record this episode, my kids are at school this week. The anticipation of summer starting is palpable. Here in Arizona, we start summer early compared to the rest of the world. By the time this episode airs, we will all be on the same page. Summer brings a much-needed shift, a transition that aligns perfectly with our cravings for change, a new rhythm, and a break from the usual routine.

However, as exciting as it is, summer can also pose challenges for small business owners. It’s an opportunity to break away from the established routine, and while that can be liberating, it can also lead to frantic moments of wondering how to navigate running a business while having kids at home or managing planned vacations. The desire for a slower pace and relaxation clashes with the responsibility of driving our businesses forward.

Today, I want to talk about something that resonates with all of us, regardless of whether we’re parents or not: preparing your small business for summer and finding harmony between work and personal life. But before we dive into the practical tips, let’s address the essential foundation: mindset.

Imagine your life and business as an old-school radio with multiple knobs, each representing a different area you manage. The key to finding balance is adjusting these knobs to reflect the season of life you’re in. Summer is an opportunity to turn down the business knob and turn up the personal knob, granting you complete control over the adjustment. This flexibility, this ability to prioritize, is the true beauty of entrepreneurship.

Remember, it’s not just about the profit. Time and location freedom are equally vital. So, let’s challenge the notion that making money should come at the expense of everything else. We want to build sustainable businesses that allow us to enjoy the journey, create memories, and spend quality time with our loved ones. By embracing the power of adjusting these knobs, we can design our summers to align with our vision for a fulfilling life.

Now, let’s get into the tangible steps to prepare your small business for summer.amanda walker business life coach

Step one: clarity is key.

Take a moment to revisit your goals and identify your priority for the summer. Is it maximizing cash flow? Or perhaps focusing on visibility and attracting new clients? By defining your priority, you can align your actions accordingly, ensuring that your efforts are directed towards what matters most.

Step two: establish clear working hours.

Set boundaries from the start and communicate them with your family and clients. This step prevents the overlap of responsibilities and allows you to be fully present in each aspect of your life. Whether it’s designating specific workdays or organizing your schedule around planned trips and family time, a well-defined structure will enhance your productivity and overall well-being.

Step three: leverage the summer season.

Consider how you can market your services to suit this time of year. Develop enticing summer packages and promotions that align with the desires and needs of your target audience during the summer months. Think creatively about how you can tailor your offerings to cater to vacationers, families, or individuals looking to make the most of the season. By tapping into the spirit of summer and customizing your products or services, you can attract new clients and keep your existing ones engaged.

Step four: automate and delegate.

Take advantage of technology and automation tools to streamline your business processes. Look for opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, such as scheduling appointments, sending invoices, or managing social media. By reducing manual work, you free up more time to enjoy the summer and focus on strategic aspects of your business. Additionally, consider delegating certain tasks to trusted team members or outsourcing to freelancers. This not only lightens your workload but also provides growth opportunities for others and fosters a sense of collaboration within your business.

Step five: nurture your own well-being.

As a small business owner, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and neglect self-care. However, maintaining your physical, mental, and emotional health is crucial for long-term success. Make self-care a priority during the summer by incorporating activities that rejuvenate and energize you. Whether it’s spending time in nature, engaging in a hobby, or taking regular breaks to relax and recharge, remember that taking care of yourself is an investment in your business as well.

Finally, embrace the flexibility and freedom that entrepreneurship offers.

Summer is a time to savor the moments, create memories, and find joy in both your work and personal life. Allow yourself to embrace the beauty of this season and find harmony between running your small business and enjoying the pleasures of summer.

So, my fellow coaches and entrepreneurs, let’s make this summer one to remember. Take these practical steps to prepare your small business, adjust those metaphorical knobs, and create a season filled with success, fulfillment, and an abundance of beautiful moments.

Remember, you have the power to design your business and life in a way that aligns with your vision. It’s time to make this summer your best one yet!
