Monica Packer is a normal mom and recovering perfectionist who uncovered the truest model to lasting growth: its progress made practical. As a podcaster and coach, she guides women to find sustainable growth by adopting progress over perfection. Monica is a mom of 5, a former middle school teacher, a forever Oprah fangirl, a perpetual cookie dough maker, and a beginning gardener.

Inside the episode, we talk about what perfectionism is really a replacement for, and we give tangible steps to help you stop allowing perfectionism to stop you from making progress.

Monica’s Story {02:05.89}

Monica shares a bit about her backstory, and trust me, it’s a story many of us can relate to. She transitioned from being the stereotypical overachiever and perfectionist to where she is today.

After experiencing the ups and downs of perfectionism, mental health struggles, and nearly losing herself to it, she reached a point where she decided it was time for change.

Fast forward to today, Monica runs a podcast that’s been around for almost seven years, helping others on their personal development journey by embracing progress over perfection.

Reliability of being a “normal” human

We talk about how important it is to share relatable stories. Monica describes herself as a “normal mom,” and that really struck a chord with me. So often, we think our stories are too average, but the truth is, they’re incredibly relatable.

We dive into the power of authenticity in attracting your ideal audience and effectively coaching clients. Authenticity means showing up as your true self, and that’s where the magic happens.

Defining Perfectionism {09:44}

Perfectionism is a tricky thing, and it often leads us into an all-or-nothing mindset. We discuss recognizing the signs of perfectionism and the importance of finding balance.  Monica gives an amazing definition of perfectionism–and you definitely have to tune into the show to hear her description!

We talk about the allure of perfectionism and how it can lead to toxic positivity. It’s a mindset that many fall into, thinking they need to be overnight success stories.

Internal vs. External Reality {18.05}

Monica opens up about how her internal transformation happened while her external life remained relatively unchanged. It’s a testament to the profound impact internal growth can have. We discuss the relief of realizing that perfectionism often serves to validate our worth. It’s an essential shift in perspective.

Tangible Takeaways

As always, we bring it full circle and talk about the tangible ways we can work to let go of perfectionism to take consistent action in our lives AND not find our identity in being perfect.
